Residents inducted into honor society
Local college students were inducted into the Baldwin Wallace University chapter of Sigma Delta Pi (SDP), the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society (La Sociedad Nacional Honoraria Hispanica), in the spring 2017 semester. Society membership is extended to students who have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in college-level Spanish courses; an overall GPA of 3.0 or better; at least sophomore standing with three years of collegelevel Spanish (or equivalent); and one course in literature or civilization. The following students from the area were inducted:
• Brian Dreger of North Olmsted, a graduate of North Olmsted High School majoring in political science and Spanish.
• Christopher Dreger of North Olmsted, a graduate of North Olmsted High School majoring in English and Spanish.
Established in 1919, SDP has over 610 chapters in 49 states. The society seeks to honor excellence in the study of the Spanish language and in the study of the literature and culture of the Spanish-speaking peoples and those who have made the Hispanic contributions to modern culture better known in the Englishspeaking world. SDP also encourages college and university students to acquire a greater interest in and a deeper understanding of Hispanic culture and fosters friendly relations and mutual respect between the nations of Hispanic speech and those of English speech.
