Bikes headed to Boys and Girls Club
Nearly 30 bicycles donated July 13
Children of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Lorain County will get the chance to get their very own bike after Heidelberg Distributing Co., Mulligan’s Pub and Grille and Great Lake Breweries donated nearly 30 of the two-wheelers to the organization July 13.
About two weeks ago, Heidelberg and Mulligan’s hosted a bike drive, where about 30 bikes were purchased from Walmart.
Staff of each business got on a bicycle and rode it from Northgate Park, 37701 Lake Drive in Avon, to Mulligan’s Pub and Grille, 38244 Colorado Ave. in Avon.
“It was so fun to see adults on these little bikes,” said Sandi Domain, resource development director for Boys and Girls Clubs.
According to Kevin Knight of Heidelberg Distributing Co., the drive was to celebrate bike week, but also to help the community.
“Our company is always looking for ways to get involved in the community,” Knight said. “And, this was a great way to help.”
Mulligan’s owner Jeff Wright added, “This is a for a great cause and about $1,000 worth of bikes went straight to Boys and Girls Clubs.”
The drive was so well received that it could be done again next year, Knight said.
After the drive, all the bikes were taken to the Boys and Girls Clubs, Desich Family Campus, 4111 Pearl Ave. in Lorain.
Two children won bikes based on their behavior at the center, Domain said.
“The rest of the bikes will be used as an incentive to the children,” she said. “If they have good behavior, nice language and things like that, we will pick two kids, a boy and girl, each month to earn a bike.”
Domain thanked everyone who participated and is happy to have such giving people and organizations in Lorain County.
“We are forever thankful for our Lorain County community,” she said.
