SummerFest will be hosted on Aug. 6 by MarketPlace at Avon, to benefit the inclusive playground project.

The first SummerFest will be hosted on Aug. 6 by MarketPlace at Avon, 35600 Detroit Ave., to benefit the city of Avon’s inclusive playground project.

The one-day festival begins at noon and runs through 6 p.m.

It will feature local artisans, craft breweries, restaurants and nonprofits, in addition to a number of local vendors who will gather to celebrate the summer season with all proceeds going to support the city’s inclusive playground project, according to a July 11 release.

The playground will be located next to the Aquatic Center, and according to Avon officials, it will incorporate the natural surroundings as well as providing innovative access to individuals with special needs with the goal of allowing children of all ages to play together without barriers.

The project is a collaboration between the city of Avon and local businesses and community groups, including the French Creek Foundation, the Christian Heritage Assembly of God, FlavorSeal and the Avon branch of the Lorain Public Library system.

The festival will provide opportunities to make additional donations on site.

The Every Child’s Playground project broke ground on May 31 with the help of Avon city officials and students from Heritage North Elementary School followed by a ceremony.

“It’s always a special time when we can do something that’s special, not only for the community, but for the surrounding areas,” Jensen said on May 31.

“We hope that the beginning of this will be something greater than something we all anticipated.”

Live music and entertainment will be provided by local band, The Player’s Club in addition to food offerings from Heck’s Café, Café Piccolo and Melt Bar and Grilled.

Area craft breweries Butcher and Brewer of Cleveland and Westlake’s Sibling Revelry Brewery will be on site giving guests the opportunity to partake.

Activities for children will include face painting, balloon twisting and services for kids provided by Snip-its.

Tickets are available through Eventbrite.

Individual tickets are $7, with family packs of six available for $25.
