The Lorain County Safe Community Coalition awarded Lt. Mark Cawthon from Amherst Police Department the Outstanding Contributor Award for 2017. Each year, the Safe Community Coalition recognizes individuals for their commitment to traffic safety promotion and crash prevention. “The Safe Community Coalition gives this award to a coalition member who displays dedication to traffic safety. Lt. Cawthon has gone beyond the call of duty to increase traffic safety through his enthusiastic participation in the coalition,” said Kat Evers Solove, MPH, CHES, a facilitator of the Safe Community Coalition and a health education specialist at Lorain County General Health District (LCGHD). “He is a great asset to the Coalition.” The Coalition recognized Lt. Cawthon his contributions toward many of this year’s initiatives. During the Buckle Up Bowl competition, Lt. Cawthon assisted to coordinate with Amherst High School Student Council about how buckling up can save your life. He also worked with RC’s Brewhouse in Amherst to help them display taxi service information and offer a “designated driver drink” on St. Patrick’s Day. Lt. Cawthon additionally participated in the Buckle Up for Burgers initiative by awarding a McDonald’s coupon to drive-thru customers who were buckled up.
