Effective Leadership Academy expands
The nonprofit will partner with the Lorain County Chamber of Commerce to design a program to help teens.
Effective Leadership Academy is growing its presence with a new Elyria Chamber Leadership Academy Program, according to a July 19 release.
The Warrensville Heights-based nonprofit organization will partner with the Lorain County Chamber of Commerce to design a program aimed at helping Elyria teenagers develop leadership skills. Participants in the program will be chosen by Elyria Teens Achieve Success.
The week-long program is slated to begin July 24. Students will learn about leadership in a corporate setting by making visits to different sites throughout Lorain County following different themes each day. Some of the themes will include government, sales and marketing, health and wellness, and manufacturing, the release said
During the course of the program students will have the opportunity to meet with Elyria Mayor Holly Brinda along with local business leaders, government officials and representatives from University Hospitals.
“Mentoring our community’s future leaders is an important step to our future success. It is incumbent upon those in leadership positions to help nurture our young people and expose them to opportunities to learn, grow and see the possible,” Brinda said in the release.
The leadership sponsor for the program is the Nord Family Foundation, an Amherst-based organization which seeks to build community through supporting projects bringing increased opportunities to the disadvantaged, and improve the bond of families and quality of life.
Executive Director and founder of Effective Leadership Academy Flo Brett emphasized that the program gives young people the opportunity to build leadership skills and network with corporate professionals in the area.
“We are grateful to have many corporate sponsors and individuals who are investing in our future leaders,” Brett said in the release.
Brett created these leadership programs while working as a business consultant in England when she noticed the lack of skills among many professionals.
