Fenderbosch re-appointed to state advisory council
Avon Lake Councilwoman Jennifer Fenderbosch was re-appointed to the Ohio EPA’s Materials Management Advisory Council, according to a July 20 release from the office of Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
Fenderbosch is one of three elected representatives on the 13-member commission appointed by Kasich and officially began a new three-term on July 20 and which will end July 1, 2020.
Representing Avon Lake and Lorain County, Fenderbosch said she was honored to be chosen to represent all of Ohio’s municipalities in reviewing statewide standards in collaborating with representatives from various industries to improve Ohio’s waste management and recycling standards.
“Right now we are reviewing what the state is asking to see if it can be quantified. The whole goal is to recycle and to reuse more products and to keep trash out of the trash line,” Fenderbosch said.
The Ward II councilwoman who also chairs the city’s sewer committee stressed the advisory council was not aiming to re-invent the wheel, but that she was committed in her role representing Ohio’s municipalities to help them become more efficient in their standards.
She noted they are presently working on developing an education program to encourage residents to reduce contamination of recycled materials which she said lowers their value.
In working with EPA officials and industry stakeholders, the advisory council is able to analyze what other states are doing in order to formulate the best plan for Ohio’s municipalities.
“I’m really proud of Avon Lake and Lorain County. We are one of the champions in the state,” Fenderbosch said.
The MMAC was established in 2015, and its primary purpose is to provide advice and guidance to the Ohio EPA director on solid waste issues, including updates to the State Solid Waste Management Plan and the Ohio EPA’s recycling and litter prevention programs, the release said.
The advisory council meets at least twice a year in Columbus at Ohio EPA headquarters where all meetings are open to the public.
