The annual Journal Jog will take place 9 a.m. with the 3K walk beginning at 9:05 a.m., July 30, at Black River Landing, 421 Black River Lane in Lorain.

The Journal Jog, created in 2010 by staff of The Morning Journal, helps raise funds for The Mary Lee Tucker Clothe-a-Child program and Newspapers in Education, according to Cindy Knudsen, race coordinator.

“The Mary Lee Tucker Clothe-a-Child program helps provide warm clothing for school-aged children and the Newspapers in Education program provides newspapers to classrooms,” Knudsen said.

Darryl Tucker, president of the Mary Lee Tucker foundation added, “The Journal Jog is a great fundraiser for the Mary Lee Tucker Clothe-a-Child and our Newspapers in Education. It’s also a great event where we attract some of the best runners in the area.”

“The Journal Jog also is a nice event for people who want to walk and support our causes. We offer great prizes for the top finishers. And all of the participants will receive a T-shirt.”

Because of road construction in the city of Lorain, the Journal Jog route was altered this year.

The route will start and finish at Black River Landing, Tucker said.

However, the route will not venture past Lake Erie and Lakeview Park this year, he said.

“Runners and walkers still will see some of the older buildings and landmarks in downtown Lorain such as the Palace Theater,” Tucker said. “They also will see the renovations taking place at the new United Way of Lorain County and Lorain County Community Action headquarters, both on Broadway.

“It’s still a nice route and we think the participants will enjoy it.”

In 2012, The Morning Journal partnered with Lorain’s mayor to raise funds for Mayor Chase Ritenaur’s Scholarship Fund dedicated to high school seniors living in Lorain.

“All three are great charities to benefit the youth of Lorain and Lorain County,” Knudsen said. “We always had great support from runners and walkers from Lorain and the surrounding area. It is a fun event for all ages, and I am hoping this year also will be a success.”
