Lorain police investigate shooting
A 32-year-old Lorain man is in serious condition following a July 24 shooting, according to a Lorain police report.
At about 9:21 p.m., Lorain police officers were dispatched to Westgate Plaza near the intersection of Leavitt Road and West 21st Street where they encountered a male on the ground yelling for help, the report said.
According to Herb de La Porte of LifeCare Ambulance Service, the man was transported by ambulance to Mercy Regional Medical Center before being flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland in critical condition. His condition was upgraded July 25, a hospital spokesperson said.
Police found the victim’s shirt with blood on it and said he appeared to have been assaulted in his stomach and back area, the report said.
The victim was driven in a rental vehicle registered to a 32-year-old Lorain woman who lives in the 2300 block of Apple Avenue, the report said.
Upon being questioned by police, the woman stated after hearing two shots, she was approached by the victim who was running up to her car, according to the release report.
The woman began driving the victim to the hospital, but called 911 as they approached Westgate Plaza.
Police are investigating the incident as a felonious assault, according to the release. Attempts to speak to the victim were unsuccessful due to his medical condition.
