Police looking for officers

The Lorain Police Department is looking for a few good men and women to hire as officers.

The salary range for the position is from $37,033 a year, while in the police academy, to $54,488 a year, after three years, according to the department’s website.

On July 31, applicatio­ns will be available in the Lorain Civil Service Commission Office located on the seventh floor of Lorain City Hall, 200 W. Erie Ave.

Applicatio­ns also will be posted online at the city of Lorain’s web page.

Applicatio­ns can be turned in between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from July 31 to Aug. 25 in person by the job applicant or his/her representa­tive.

The civil service test for the position is 6 p.m. Sept. 6, at the Lorain County Community College Spitzer Conference Center, 1005 N. Abbe Road.

The exam will test the following areas: ability to learn and apply police informatio­n, ability to observe and remember details, verbal ability, ability to follow directions and ability to use judgment and logic.

A score of at least 70 percent must be achieved in order to be eligible to take the agility exam.

Those who pass the written civil service exam are eligible to take an agility examinatio­n. The agility exam is pass or fail and will take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 30, and 10 a.m. Sept. 6, at George Daniel Field, 2601 Oberlin Ave. in Lorain.

A public informatio­n and recruitmen­t forum for the position will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Lorain Police Department, 200 W. Erie Ave.
