During the week of Aug. 14, Lorain Public Library System libraries will host pony parties to kick off the library system’s involvement with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a free book distribution program. Kids will get to meet ponies up close at the library while folks enjoy some good ol’ country music.

Inspired by her father’s inability to read or write, country music artist Dolly Parton created her Imagination Library, a book gifting program designed to foster a love of reading in children. Events include:

• Preschool Pony Party Aug. 14, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Avon Branch Library, 37485 Harvest Drive, Avon Attendees can listen to the singing cowboy from Pony Tales Farm, meet two rescue ponies, and come for story time under the trees.

• Pony Rides Aug. 15, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. South Lorain Branch Library, 2121 Homewood Drive, Lorain Families can bring their kids for pony rides and enjoy country music.
