Responses sought for active transportation plan
Lorain residents and visitors still have a chance to lend their opinions about walking, biking and riding public transit in the city.
Local health and transportation agencies have joined with Lorain City Schools to create a new City of Lorain Active Transportation Plan.
Starting in February, planning staff have had several meetings to discuss how they will draft a guide to making Lorain safer for active transportation, or human-powered travel on foot, bikes, skates and generally without using a car.
The project includes a two-part online survey for city residents and anyone who travels to Lorain for work or leisure.
The survey results will help the planning committee create priorities for the travel plan to get around Lorain, said Katherine Bray, health education specialist of the Lorain County General Health District.
The first part is a question-and-answer survey that asks participants about their habits for biking, car pooling, driving alone or being dropped off, using public transit and other forms of transportation.
The survey also is available in Spanish.
There also is an interactive map survey that allows users to draw lines showing good and bad routes for walking or cycling and to pinpoint destinations and barriers to human-powered transportation.
Links for the surveys are posted at cityoflorain.org.
Surveys will remain online through July 31. Respondents are asked to complete the forms by then, Bray said.
The Active Transportation Plan Committee likely will seek additional public input this fall once school starts, she said.
