The first Vermilion Beach Market kicked off at the city’s Sherod Park on Aug. 4.

Featuring more than 60 traveling vendors from around Northeast Ohio and beyond, the inaugural year of the market gave guests the opportunity to shop for vintage and handcrafted goods ranging from furniture, art to clothing on the shores of Lake Erie.

Shoppers and bargain hunters who made the trek to the southwest corner of the park were welcomed to vendors selling unique signs with Ohio themes, furniture from salvaged goods and unique pieces with ambiance of a flea market, never knowing what you might discover next.

With strong gusts of wind

“It’s been fun so far. We actually thought the weather was going to be so much worse and everyone is so friendly here.”

blowing off the water, some vendors were forced to take some interesting precautions to avoid any flying debris.

Les and Melissa Foldesi of North Royalton came to Vermilion and featured their business ReInvintage Furniture and Home Décor. Armed with bungee cords and 30-pound weights, Les was holding down the roof

of their tent as they greeted guests.

“It’s been a little challenging. One thing that I find here is that I was surprised they would be here at three o’clock and ready to go on a Friday. So people are turning out and that’s a good thing. And it has been everything that I’ve hoped it would be in the first couple of hours,” Melissa said.

Coming all the way from Pittsburgh, Marissa Zimmerman, the owner of mobile fashion business, The Vintage Valet LLC Mobile

Boutique, was enjoying Vermilion as her first time bringing her business to Ohio.

“It’s been fun so far. We actually thought the weather was going to be so much worse and everyone is so friendly here,” Zimmerman said.

According to Anne Naugle,

organizer of the market, a portion of this year’s proceeds will go to the Vermilion Parks and Recreation Department to support improvements and beautification efforts at Sherod Park.

The Vermilion Beach Market continues on Aug. 5 where it will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
