A Lorain man will be laid to rest Aug. 10, after succumbing to injuries from a July crash in Amherst.

The Amherst police department received notice that Kristopher Mills, 26, died Aug. 3 of his injuries in the crash.

They said the crash occurred about 2:35 a.m. July 28 near the 900 block of North Main Street. That section of roadway has several curves, and according to police, Mills failed to negotiate one of those turns and struck a tree head on.

According to police, Mills and his 25-year-old male passenger were removed from the vehicle and transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center, 3700 Kolbe Road, before being flown to Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland.

The police said the passenger was released a few days later.

According to Mills’ obituary, he graduated from Admiral King High School, where he lettered in varsity baseball and received the first John Popiel Award for Overall Achievement in the sport. He later played for CYO and Lorain County Community College.

The family will hold the Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Ave. in Lorain, with burial to follow in Cavalry Cemetery, 555 North Ridge Road.
