Services added: First Congregational UCC, 36363 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, has sported a Purple Question Mark on the front lawn for the past few weeks and people are talking. It is just what the committee has been hoping for because on Sept. 10, there will be an eventful change in the church’s history, not one, but two services will be offered, one at 9 a.m. and one at 10:30 a.m. All are invited to join the church services at 9 a.m. in Fellowship Hall located off the rear parking lot area. This will be an informal Coffee Café’ service with worship, music, coffee, and discussion. Following the informal interactive Coffee Café’ service there will be fellowship time until 10:20 a.m. The traditional worship service at 10:30 a.m. with a full choir, Children’s Time, communion twice a month, and the sermon. The second service will end at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome. For information call 440-327-2921. Rummage sale: The Oberlin Lutheran Women’s League of Grace Lutheran Church, 310 W. Lorain St., Oberlin, will host the annual rummage sale Sept. 1 and 2. The sale will feature clothing for all including child and baby clothes, shoes, games, books, linens, and kitchenware. The sale 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 1 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 2 with lunch available. The luncheon menu will offer cabbage and noodles, sloppy joes, hot dogs, chips and soft drinks and will be available for sale between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Homemade bakery will also be available for purchase both days. Tuition scholarships available: Christ Lutheran Preschool is offering six full tuition scholarships for its two-day pre-K class. To apply for a scholarship the family must fill out an application form and provide proof of a need for financial assistance (copy of tax return, etc). Families do not need to be Avon Lake residents to apply. To be considered, the child must be 4 years old before Aug. 1, 2017. These scholarships are only available for the two-day pre-K class which is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Call the Preschool office at 440-933-6714 for more information or to request an application. Deadline to apply is Aug. 25. Christ Lutheran Preschool is a 5 Star Step Up to Quality Rated preschool and is the only Christian based preschool in Avon Lake. It is located at Lake Road and Route 83 inside Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. A few openings remain in other classes for the fall; call for information. Blessings of pets: The congregation of Fields United Methodist Church, North Ridgeville, will sponsor a ‘Blessing Of The Pets’ event as part of its 5 p.m. outdoor service Aug. 19. The public is welcome to join as we give thanks to God for our beloved companions and bless their lives in the midst of ours. There will be an anointing of those animals who are sick and struggling, offering them comfort and those called to care for them peace and hope. All are welcome to join us at this spiritual celebration to honor our loyal companions who love us unconditionally. The event will be in the church picnic pavilion. Please bring a donation of food, toys, cat litter, or cash to support a local animal shelter. Bring your dog, cat, bunny, hamster, chinchilla, ferret, rat, snake, turtle, fish, or any pet that you have that enriches your life. Charity car show: Avon United Methodist Church, 37711 Detroit Road, will host “Wheels for Wags”, a charity car show benefiting the Friendship APL of Lorain County, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 19. There is a $10 registration fee and it is open to all makes and models. Spectators are admitted free but donations of pet food and cat litter are greatly appreciated. Along with the display of cars, there will be music, food, bake sale, door prizes, contests for dogs and over 30 raffle baskets with a grand prize of 4 Disney World passes. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 2238 E. 32nd St., Lorain. It will include continuous entertainment by We Three Strings and Raz, Dva, Tre bands. Featured menu items will be fish fry, Russian Imperial dinner, Beef Stroganoff, Borscht, pirogi dinners, stuffed cabbage, cabbage and noodles, kielbasa and kraut sandwich, Russian hoagie, Russian-style crepes (blini), nutrolls, poppyseed rolls, cookies, breads, and other assorted bakery.
