The Morning Journal is preparing for the start of high school football by ranking the 20 best stories throughout the coverage area to come out of the 2016 season.

WHAT HAPPENED » In a Week 3 matchup with Dalton, Clearview senior Destiny Allgood made school history despite the Clippers’ 35-14 loss. Allgood kicked two extra points late in the game to become the first female to record points on the football team, cementing her place in the Clearview record books.

WHY IT MATTERS » The moment meant a lot to Allgood who had always wanted to be on the football team but hadn’t found the courage to try it until her senior year. It was a proud moment for the team and coaching staff, as well, who were thrilled

to see Allgood’s hard work and dedication pay off in a big way.

“I can’t explain the feeling. I just wanted to prove to people I can do it if I put my mind to it. I just have determination to get out there and do what I have to do.” — Allgood

“I always wanted to be on the football team, but everybody kept telling me that I’m a girl and I can’t do it. But I did it and I don’t care what anybody has to say. My teammates have supported me and have been behind my back since Day 1. I’ve felt a part of the family.” — Allgood

“I’m proud of her because she has a tremendous work ethic. She’s been here throughout the summer and never misses a day. She doesn’t just show up to kick, she’s there for the whole time. A lot of good things can be learned from her.” — Clearview coach Mike Collier

Unfortunately, Allgood was injured Week 4 in a 43-12 loss to Firelands, but her impact on the Clearview sports community had already been felt. Weeks after Allgood scored her first points, Collier was still singing the praises of the senior who he said “won a lot of people over,” and in a season that was otherwise disappointing for the Clippers, gave the school and the community something to rally around.
