Community Foundation announces grants
The Community Foundation of Lorain County Board recently approved $771,036 in grants, according to a media release.
The Community Foundation approved 38 grants in various fields including: $127,430 for the arts and culture; $40,000 for civic affairs; $51,075 for education; $15,000 for the environment; $131,716 for health and health outreach; $39,105 for housing and shelter; $40,000 for law enforcement and legal aid; $13,000 for science and technology; $246,300 for social services; and $67,410 for youth development.
The release highlighted three of these grants:
• The Lorain Arts Council received $14,560 to recruit and hire six Vietnam veterans who will plan and create a mural in Lorain.
• Techcorps received $13,000 to teach techminded girls at Knollwood and Forestlawn elementary schools — in the Sheffield-Sheffield Lake City Schools district — how to code, program computers, build apps and design websites.
• Voices for Children received $3,300 to recruit volunteer guardians ad litem to advocate for children at the Lorain County Domestic Relations Court. Last year, 150 volunteers worked 16,000 hours representing 415 children in the county, the release said.

Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park: $5,000 for Elyria City Schools participation at Cuyahoga Valley Environmental Education Center
Western Reserve Land Conservancy: $10,000 for land protection activities in Lorain County
