Lorain man accused of felonious assault

- Staff report

A Lorain man is facing a felonious assault charge after police say he severely beat his mother’s boyfriend Aug. 7.

According to a Lorain police report, officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 5000 block of Oberlin Avenue for an assault complaint and found the 32-year-old victim with an “extremely swollen and bloodied face.”

The victim told police the assailant was 20-yearold Tavon Martin, the son of his 44-year-old girlfriend who lives in the apartment complex with him.

According to the report, the victim told police Martin and him were arguing in the parking lot of the complex until the incident became physical and Martin punched the man an unspecified amount of times.

Martin then allegedly walked into an adjacent apartment complex, the report said.

Officers were unable to locate Martin in the complex, but a neighbor said she witnessed the assault and that Martin attacked the victim because the victim frequently “beats” Martin’s mother, the report said.

The victim was transported to Mercy in Lorain, and was later flown by helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland due to multiple facial fractures and a possible skull fracture, the report said.

Martin was arrested Aug. 28 and is currently being held in the Lorain City Jail on a $35,000 bond.
