MMS continues cultural presentati­ons

The Mexican Mutual Society,1820 E. 28th St. in Lorain, is continuing to host a series of monthly cultural presentati­ons.

The video programs are designed to introduce the organizati­on to the larger community and provide new programmin­g for its members.

Mexican Mutual was organized as a benefit society to assist Mexican immigrants who settled in Lorain primarily to work at the National Tube Steel Mill. Next year, Mexican Mutual will celebrate 90 years of leadership and assistance to the community, including providing scholarshi­ps, organizing the annual Cinco de Mayo Parade, sponsoring sports teams and hosting family activities.

The remaining programs are scheduled:

• Sept. 15: Ancient Indigenous Civilizati­ons of Mesoameric­a

• Oct. 20: The Origins and Developmen­t of Salsa

• Nov. 10: Honoring Latino Veterans

• Dec. 15: Christmas Party — Las Posadas and Parrandas.

All programs run from 7-8:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public. The video/lectures are conducted by Eileen Torres, who has returned to Lorain after living in Washington for 30 years. The presentati­ons have been experience­d by audiences on over 400 occasions in the United States and other locations.
