Police: Alleged dealer sold drugs to man day before fatal overdose

-

A 24-year-old Lorain man is facing a slew of drug-related charges after police say he was involved in the Aug. 25 overdose death of an Elyria man.

Mark A. Calhoun was arrested at 11 a.m., Aug. 30, while attempting to make a heroin sale at a gasoline station in the 800 block of Lorain Boulevard, according to an Elyria police report.

Elyria narcotics detectives connected Calhoun to the Aug. 25 overdose death of 22-year-old Justin Fisher at a Bell Avenue home, the report said.

Calhoun sold drugs to Fisher that day, according to the report.

Calhoun admitted to police he sold “heroin and crack cocaine” to a friend of Fisher’s the day before the fatal overdose, the report said.

During his arrest, Calhoun told officers he was at the gas station attempting to sell Percocets, a prescription painkiller and controlled substance. The report said he asked the officers not to take the pills.

A search of the 2013 Dodge Dart Calhoun was driving, turned up 71 doses of Roxicet, a schedule II controlled substance; 2.8 grams of suspected fentanyl; a digital scale; six cell phones and $305.00 in cash, according to the report.

The cash and car, which belongs to Calhoun’s girlfriend, were both seized, the report said.

Calhoun is charged with trafficking a schedule II controlled substance, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, trafficking fentanyl, possession of fentanyl, possessing criminal tools, drug paraphernalia and corrupting another with drugs.

Lorain County Common Pleas Court records show Calhoun was out on bond on a separate case from June in which he is charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

He was arraigned Aug. 31 in Elyria Municipal Court and is being held at the Lorain County Jail on $30,250 bond. He will next appear at the court for a preliminary hearing Sept. 7. Calhoun
