Mercy seeks zoning change
8 acres to house medical offices, future buildings
Mercy Regional Medical Center will seek a zoning change for its new medical office center on Oak Point Road in Lorain.
The Lorain City Planning Commission on Sept. 6 will consider the zoning change for 8.1 acres.
The hospital is seeking to change the zoning to B-2 General Business District from R1-A Residential District.
About five acres of the property will be used for the new 30,000-squarefoot center with primary and specialty care, walk-in services and occupational health services.
“The planned medical office center on Oak Point will provide easy access to high-quality services for the Lorain Community,” said the request by Cynthia Dennison, Mercy chief financial officer.
“This new facility provides us with the opportunity to better serve our community with additional primary care providers along with new services include specialty care, occupational health and walk-in care in a convenient location.”
Mercy announced the project on Aug. 15.
Dennison wrote the building will support economic growth of Lorain with new jobs and an increased salary base. Mercy previously announced the center could have more than 75 new staff working there.
The hospital will have three acres remaining to be developed for retail or services that will complement the residents surrounding Oak Point Road, Dennison said.
According to Mercy’s plans, the complex will be northeast of the Deerfield Development If approved, the building could open in fall 2018.
The Lorain City Planning Commission is scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. on the first floor of Lorain City Hall, 200 W. Erie Ave.
