LCCAA announce move to new location
The Lorain County Community Action Agency will move to a new location on Broadway Ave.
“This move represents and exciting development for our agency.”
— President and CEO Jackie Boehnlein
The Lorain County Community Action Agency will move to a new location on Broadway Ave. beginning Sept. 18, according to a news release.
Their new home at 936 Broadway Ave. in Lorain is situated only a few blocks away from their longtime 502/506 Broadway Ave. location.
“This move represents and exciting development for our agency,” said President and CEO Jackie Boehnlein. “While ever cost conscious, this was an opportunity not to be missed.”
Staff currently working at 502/506 Broadway will move to the new location Sept. 18-20 at which time the agency will be closed. According to the release, telephone internet and website service may be interrupted during this time.
The new space leased and improved by United Property Management Company consists of about 14,000 square feet, downsizing from the agency’s present location. The new office will preserve the historic storefronts of the three buildings, a factor especially important to developer and Lorain native Jon Veard of United Property, according to the release.
“It was Jon who saw the potential of the buildings,” Boehnlein said. “Looking at blight up close is daunting, but Jon only saw vibrancy. Now those buildings are alive again and the agency has what it needs to operate well and work in service to help low-income residents of Lorain County improve their lives.”
The project required extensive demolition and the replacement of all major mechanical systems, roofs and an elevator. The new space includes customer access from Broadway Ave. and from the rear of the south building, dedicated customer and employee parking, a sunlit reception area for HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program) customers as well as a large ground-floor community meeting room, four conference rooms and workspace for 40 employees, the release said.
The HEAP office currently located at 435 Fourth St. will remain open during the transition and will move its operations to 936 Broadway Ave. on Sept. 29.
HEAP appointments for Sept. 29 will be available at LCCAA’s Elyria office at St. Agnes Church located at 611 Lake Ave.
LCCAA’s existing building will be converted to direct service for the agency’s youth-related initiatives including workforce development training for older youth.
Boehlnlein plans to unveil the new location at a community open house to take place in the fall.
