The stadium at George Daniel Field in Lorain has stood for about 90 years on Oberlin Avenue in Lorain.

The district hopes for partners to come alongside with ideas and funding.

After all, Elyria is building a new stadium and sports complex at the Ely Stadium site on 1915 Middle Ave.

“There has been a lot of community interest in

making improvements to our stadium,” according to Jeff Hawks, executive director of facilities and operations at Lorain City Schools.

Polling confirmed it, so the district looked at various cost scenarios from a minimum of repairs to building a state-of-theart facility, Hawks told Lorain School Board at a Sept. 18 meeting at Lorain High School, 2600 Ashland Ave.

And architecture firm GPD Group from Akron was tasked with preparing

proposals from a basic renovation to a dream build with all of the best of everything, Hawks said.

But to move forward, the district needs funding commitments from outside of the current general fund budget.

“Our community has the capability of moving very quickly when motivated to do so we saw it with our Titan Wellness initiative in partnership with Mercy,” Hawks indicated later. “We’d love to see the same thing happen here.”

Homecoming for Lorain High is Oct. 6 at George Daniel Field.

The students in the

school district are choosing a name for the Titan mascot, which will be revealed at a pep rally that afternoon, according to a news release from Erin Gadd, director of communications and community engagement at Lorain Schools.

The new mascot will make a public debut at the homecoming game against Warrensville Heights, according to the release.

The athletic boosters, Athletic Director Bryan Koury, Head Cheerleading Coach Kristian Calhoun and teacher Tamara Jones made the new mascot possible, according to Gadd.
