The Avon Planning Commission has approved a new Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant.

The commission at its Sept. 20 meeting approved the final development plan with contingencies for the new location which will be situated on the corner of Colorado Avenue and Moore Road in Avon.

The new 1,884-squarefoot location will be the third Dunkin’ Donuts location in the city following a second location on Nagel Road set to open in October.

A smaller location than the roughly 2,500-squarefoot Nagel Road location, the new restaurant will seat about 20 people and will specialize as a drivethru for commuters and other residents in this area of the city.

“Corporate thought this was a growing area so they wanted to make sure they captured this part of the city,” said Economic Development Coordinator Pam Fechter.

She said there was some pushback from residents who questioned the need for a third Dunkin’ Donuts location.

“As long as the property is zoned correctly then they are allowed to develop a third Dunkin’ Donuts,” Fechter said.

Additionally, a group of residents from a neighboring condo subdivision expressed some concerns about noise.

Fechter noted in addressing those issues the restaurant would only be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. The planning commission also worked with the developers to ensure the drive-thru window would be situated on the east side of the structure to mitigate any excess noise concerns.

“We always get concerns when you have more than one of something. The one thing we have noticed with the interchanges people are going to stop and grab a cup of coffee and I’m not sure that it will cause more congestion,” said Avon Mayor Bryan Jensen.

Pending final approval of the planning commission, the new Dunkin’ Donuts location will break ground later this fall.
