The Matt Wilhelm Award goes to the football player of the year for the Morning Journal area.

The Wilhelm watch list is fluid and can change from week to week. In alphabetical order: • Darren Anders, North Olmsted, Jr.: Rushed 11 times for 94 yards and five touchdowns in a 49-7 win over Westlake. For the season, Anders has 479 yards and 10 touchdowns on 73 carries and two receiving touchdowns on offense to go with three tackles for a loss, a sack, an interception and a recovered fumble on defense.

• Brandon Coleman, Columbia, Jr.: Rushed 26 times for 186 yards and two touchdowns in a 49-20 loss to Buckeye. For the season, Coleman has 938 yards and 13 touchdowns on 139 carries, adding two kickoff returns for a touchdown, a pick-six and 46 tackles, including four for a loss and a sack.

• Dameon Crawford, Rocky River, Sr.: Rushed 18 times for 48 yards in a 34-21 loss to Lakeside. For the season, Crawford has 533 yards and five touchdowns on 109 carries, adding seven receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown.

• Nick Denney, Firelands, Sr.: Rushed 11 times for 57 yards in a 20-7 win over Fairview. For the season, Denney has 337 yards and five touchdowns on 37 carries, adding 275 yards and three touchdowns on 13 catches. He also has a kick return for a touchdown, two blocked field goals and 14 tackles. • Daylin Dower, Lorain, So.: Rushed 11 times for 97 yards and two touchdowns, adding a 57-yard touchdown catch, in a 42-21 win over Clarkson Academy. For the season, Dower has 603 yards and nine touchdowns on 62 carries, adding 85 yards and a touchdown on five receptions. • Drew Engle, Clearview, Jr.: Rushed 12 times for 188 yards and three touchdowns in a 50-6 win over Brookside. For the season, Engle has 772 yards and nine touchdowns on 86 carries. • Seamus Higley, Midview, Sr.: Was 18-for-34 for 254 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions, adding 48 yards on 10 rushes, in a 42-21 loss to Avon. For the season, Higley is 72-for-120 for 1,019 yards, 16 touchdowns and three interceptions, adding 79 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries. • Seth Hurd, Vermilion, Jr.: Was 13-for-19 for 182 yards and four touchdowns, adding seven carries for 48 yards and a pick-six on defense in a 45-31 win over Tiffin Columbian. For the season, Hurd is 64-89 for 734 yards, 12 touchdowns and two interceptions, adding 308 yards and five touchdowns on 42 carries and four interceptions (two returned for touchdowns) on defense. • Luke Lombardo, Olmsted Falls, Sr.: Rushed 15 times for 79 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-35 win over North Ridgeville. For the season, Lombardo has 430 yards and nine touchdowns on 67 carries. • Ryan Maloy, Avon, Jr.: Was 13-for-18 for 183 yards and a touchdown, adding 11 carries for 120 yards and a touchdown, in a 42-21 win over Midview. For the season, Maloy is 72-for-99 for 954 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions, adding 267 yards and four touchdowns on 40 carries. • Chris Mullins, Avon, Sr.: Caught five passes for 113 yards and a touchdown in a 42-21 win over Midview. For the season, Mullins has 24 receptions for 433 yards and three touchdowns. • Jonah Pfeil, Vermilion, Jr.: Caught four passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns, adding 10 tackles on defense, in a 45-31 win over Tiffin Columbian. For the season, Pfeil has 32 receptions for 450 yards and six touchdowns, adding an interception, fumble recovery and 43 tackles on defense. • Khennedy Scagliozzo, Amherst, Jr.: Rushed 34 times for 302 yards and three touchdowns, adding a 36-yard touchdown pass, in a 51-41 win over BereaMidpark. For the season, Scagliozzo has 985 yards and 13 touchdowns on 138 carries and a touchdown pass. • Justin Sturgill, Lorain, Sr.: Was 13-for-20 for 30 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-21 win over Clarkson Academy. For the season, Sturgill is 51-for-86 for 730 yards, 12 touchdowns and one interception, adding four passes for two-point conversions. • Deviian Williams, Elyria, Sr.: Caught three passes for 59 yards and a touchdown in a 54-28 loss to Euclid. For the season, Williams has 27 catches for 392 yards and four touchdowns. • Connor Wolfe, Midview, Sr.: Rushed 19 times for 125 yards in a 42-21 loss to Avon. For the season, Wolfe has 688 yards and three touchdowns on 97 rushes, adding 32 yards and a touchdown on four catches. • Qwanda Woodson, Elyria, Jr.: Had four tackles and a sack in a 54-28 loss to Euclid. For the season, Woodson has 62 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovered.
