NFL suspends Bears’ Trevathan
The NFL has suspended Chicago Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan for two games for his frightening hit against Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams.
The league announced the punishment on Saturday. Trevathan has three business days to appeal the suspension.
Adams was taken off the field on a stretcher in the third quarter Thursday night after getting hit in the head during a tackle by Trevathan. The game was delayed for about 5 minutes while medical personnel tended to Adams. He tweeted Friday that he was at home and “feeling great.”
Trevathan is eligible to return following Chicago’s game against Baltimore on Oct. 15.

AMERICANS CLOSE IN ON
PRESIDENTS CUP » The Americans came within one match of winning the Presidents Cup on Saturday.
Anirban Lahiri made two clutch birdies that only delayed the inevitable. This is a powerful U.S. team playing to its potential, and the result is the biggest blowout since these matches began in 1994.
Lahiri and Si Woo Kim delivered the only victory for the International team over two sessions, and the Americans poured it on. They had a 14 ½-3 ½ lead, needing only one point Sunday to retain the cup.

Joe Tiller, the winningest football coach in Purdue history, has died at 74.
The school said he died Saturday in Buffalo, Wyoming. The Harness Funeral Home said he died at home of natural causes.
Tiller coached the Boilermakers from 1997 to 2008 and had a 87-62 record. He led the previously downtrodden program to 10 bowl games, including the 2001 Rose Bowl. He coached NFL quarterbacks Drew Brees, Kyle Orton and Curtis Painter.
Tiller overtook Jack Mollenkopf for most wins by a Purdue football coach with his 85th victory, a 3225 decision over Central Michigan in 2008.
Tiller coached for six years at Wyoming before joining Purdue.
