Teen dies from crash injuries

- Staff report

A Lorain teen died Oct. 2 from injuries he suffered in a Seneca County car crash late last month.

Michael R. Cool, 18, was flown to a Toledo hospital for treatment of injuries from a Sept. 27 crash, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

About 7:55 p.m. that night, Cool was driving a 1998 Lincoln four-door car heading eastbound on state Route 162 in Reed Township, Seneca County, according to the Patrol.

A 2012 Toyota Camry driven by Sydney Vaughn, 18, of Attica, was heading southbound on state Route 4 when it struck the Lincoln on the driver side door, the Patrol said.

After the collision, the cars went off the southeast corner of the intersection and came to rest in a field, according to the Patrol.

There was a stop sign posted on Route 162. It was unclear if Cool failed to stop at the sign, or stopped but pulled out into the intersection because he did not see the oncoming car, said Trooper Austin Young of the Fremont post of the Patrol.

Vaughn was wearing a seat belt and was taken to Bucyrus Hospital for treatment. Cool was not wearing a seat belt and was cut out of the car before being flown to Toledo St. Vincent Medical Center, according to the Patrol.

Cool was a 2017 graduate of Marion L. Steele High School in Amherst and Lorain County JVS. He was employed at Ganley Imports in Cleveland and he owned Mr. Fix-It, a small handyman business.

Cool loved to work outdoors and was happiest working around his friends’ farms and cars, according to his obituary posted by Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals.

“He was very generous and love the rodeo and farming,” his obituary said. “He loved to be the ‘life of the party’ and making everyone laugh. He was a true joy to be with.”

Cool was the son of Robert G. and Susan R. Cool of Lorain, who survive. Cool is survived by two sisters, a brother and other relatives, according to his obituary.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Lorain County Fairgrounds Show Barn, 23000 Fairgrounds Road, Wellington.

Funeral services start at 11 a.m. Oct. 7 at the Fairgrounds Show Barn, with a “pickup truck” procession to follow to Vermillion Cemetery, Hayesville.
