Woman indicted on attempted murder charges

A 20-year-old Oberlin woman was indicted on a count of attempted murder Oct. 5, 2017, in Lorain County Common Pleas Court.

Ana Cotto-Rivera is also facing three counts of felonious assault as well as single counts of kidnapping and domestic violence, according to the indictment.

was arrested by Oberlin police when officers responded to a call of two women arguing Aug. 27, 2017, according to an Oberlin police report.

Officers arrived at apartments on South Main Street and could hear objects being thrown from outside the apartment, the report said.

The door to the apartment was opened by the victim who had a bump on her forehead as well as scratches on her face, arms, legs and feet, according to the report.

Blood was found on the floor of the apartment along with a broken lamp and guitar that also had blood on it, the report said.

According to the report, Cotto-Rivera told officers, “We were arguing and fighting. We did not agree ... and started throwing stuff at each other.”

Cotto-Rivera said the two were in a relationsh­ip and that both females were living in the apartment, according to the report.

The report indicated Cotto-Rivera also told officers, “We both struck one another. But I did more.”

Police located a knife that the victim said was the cause of the cuts on her body, according to the report.

The victim was then transporte­d to Mercy Allen Hospital in Oberlin, the report said.
