Execution was the goal for Midview entering Friday night’s game against Westlake, and it’s safe to say that goal was achieved.

The Middies topped the Demons on homecoming night, 55-6, as they improved to 6-1 on the season and 5-1 in the Southwestern Conference. Westlake drops to 0-7 and 0-6 in league play.

“We talked all week about execution,” Midview coach DJ Shaw said. “We talked about wanting to play a crisp game all the way through — offense, defense and special teams — and I think we did that all the way through and I’m proud of our kids.”

Westlake in their first series of the game started off with solid momentum, driving to the 26-yard line, but turned it over on an inteception.

“They (Westlake) came out with a couple of different looks that we haven’t seen,” Shaw said. “They drove right down on us on the first drive and we had to get things settled, but we came up with a huge interception that kind of stopped that drive that was really a momentum swinger.”

The very first play for the Middies senior running back Connor Wolfe broke out for a 45-yard gain. Midview took six more plays to get on the board first, as Wolfe scored on a one-yard touchdown run.

Midview scoree on their next series, as senior quarterback Seamus Higley connected with junior receiver John McCall on a 28-yard touchdown pass, giving the Middies a 14-0 lead.

“The coaches gave us a

great game plan tonight,” Higley said. “We went out there and executed to the best of our ability.”

After the Westlake defense went four and out, the Middies continued their momentum on offense, picking up their third touchdown on a 22yard rush by Wolfe, and a 21-0 lead in the second quarter.

Westlake gave up two more touchdowns in the second quarter, one to junior receiver Isaiah Johnson on a 50-yard touchdown grab, and another to senior receiver Ben Gendics on a 35-yard touchdown catch.

The Demons, however, managed to get a score late in the second quarter, as QB William Blood found senior running back James Coleman on a 41yard touchdown strike, cutting the Middies’ lead to 35-6 after a missed extra point.

“Credit Westlake,” Shaw said. “They entered tonight 0-6, but they have some really good players over there and our kids could have taken this game really lightly, but I thought they came out with a good attitude about it. Our guys had a really good week of practice, which was awesome to see, but now we have a huge game next week against Olmsted Falls.”

Midview kept things going to end the first half, as Higley found senior receiver Nick Crum in the end zone on a 34-yard pass and a 41-6 lead.

Offensively, the Middies scored twice more: junior receiver Isaiah Johnson had a 16-yard touchdown run, followed by Seth Sanders’ TD reception.
