An Elyria man assaulted a police officer Oct. 10 on Walnut Street, according to an Elyria police report.

Elyria officers responded at 2:45 p.m. to a call of domestic violence between a male and a female, the report said.

The door was answered by a woman who was shaking and looking over her shoulder as if she was trying to get rid of the officers, according to the report.

Officers asked her if they could check her apartment and whether she was OK, the report said.

She said she did not need police checking her apartment and that she was alone, according to the report.

The woman later stated her boyfriend, Joshua R. Brinson, 26, was in the apartment, the report said.

Brinson asked the woman if she called police on him and then acted as though he was about to strike the woman and an officer got in between the two, according to the report.

A short time later, Brinson ordered everyone out of his apartment, the report said.

Brinson was told to calm down and that the officers were there because of a domestic violence complaint. He then shoved an officer in order to get to the woman, according to the report.

The officer pinned Brinson against a closed door and then threw him down to the floor to handcuff him, the report said.

Officers had to drag Brinson to the squad car because he was actively resisting, according to the report.

The woman said she was not physically assaulted. Brinson was placed in the Lorain County Jail on assault charges.
