Playing without LeBron James, Cleveland got 18 points from Jose Calderon and 15 from Dwyane Wade, who along with Derrick Rose did not play in the second half, to beat Orlando, 113-106.

James missed his fourth preseason game with a bad ankle, and Kevin Love also didn’t play for the visiting Cavaliers (1-4). Aaron Gordon had 21 points for the Magic (3-3).

Kyle Korver took five 2-point attempts, something he did in only six games all last season.

The Monsters edged host Manitoba, 4-3, via a flurry in the second period to pick up their first win of the season.

Cleveland (1-1-0-0) scored three in the second period to take a 3-2 lead and traded goals in the third period to hold on for the win.

Scoring for the Monsters were Carter Camper, Calvin Thurkauf and a pair from Joe Pendenza. Bruce Arena resigned as U.S. men’s national team coach on Friday, three days after the Americans failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1986.

The U.S. Soccer Federation said within 10 days it will announce an interim coach for planned exhibition games next month.

“There’s no point in me being around,” Arena said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. “I’m not going to be around for the next cycle. The only thing I regret, obviously, is not having a cycle with the team, because you need more time than 10 months with a team. But I knew that in advance of it, so I’m responsible for it.”

USSF President Sunil Gulati, speaking during a telephone news conference, said he did not plan to resign.

“Most coaches do, but it’s not the cases that most presidents do, and I’m not planning to,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of things on our agenda, including a World Cup bid that is due in the end of March and a decision in June.”

Brazilian soccer star Kaka has announced he will not re-sign with Orlando City.
