Schuster’s Family Fun Fest a success
The ninth annual Schuster’s Family Fun Fest was Oct. 14 and 15 at Donald A Schuster Greenhouse, 8638 Murray Ridge Road in Elyria. The event featured pumpkins, a petting zoo, hay rides and a fun maze.
“We are a family-oriented business, and I think that comes through with the Fun Fest and everything we do,” Steve Schuster, Donald A Schuster Greenhouse owner said. “We pride ourselves on being able to provide an experience the whole family can enjoy and give them a place to hangout.”
Schuster said they provide hayrides on the weekends and feature a wide variety of pumpkins.
“We have varying sizes of pumpkins that range up to 100 pounds,” he said. “We have corn stalks, hay bales, and pretty much anything else you’d expect from a true farm experience here in Lorain County.”
Schuster said the business has been going on for 53 years and started with two wagons on the road.
“The business is now in its third generation, and we have gained a good reputation in the community,” he said. “We owe a lot to all the faithful customers we’ve had over the years. We are now a business that covers a much larger area and we have over 100 tons of pumpkins.”
According to Schuster, the best part of the event is seeing the kids’ reactions.
“I love to see their eyes light up,” he said. “You can tell they’ve never been on a farm before, and it is a special moment when they’re able to get close to one of these animals.”
James Strasko, one of the patrons at the Fun Fest, said he was there for the pumpkins.
“I enjoy carving pumpkins this time of year,” Strasko said. “Schuster’s has the best selection, and I know the prices will be good.”
Jasmine Alameri was at the Fun Fest for the first time.
“I not quite sure what to expect but I’ve heard good things, and I’m interested to see what they have to offer,” Alameri said. “It looks like a fun event.”
Schuster commented that it is always great to just sit and watch the families walk past.
“There’s nothing quite like this event anywhere else in the area,” he said. “It is great to see all the people that come here because their parents took them. Now those same people have kids of their own; it’s great to see.”
