Meet an outstanding grad of Lorain High

-

Missing in all the dialogue about the academic situation of Lorain City Schools is the fact that LCS has produced a graduate who is, perhaps, more outstanding than any the highly ranked schools like Solon, Westlake and Rocky River had in the college class of 2017.

2013 Lorain High grad Blake Benyard graduated magna cum laude with the highest gradepoint average in the Department of Physics at Morehouse College in Atlanta, the alma mater of Martin Luther King and many other notables.

Blake was selected to spend summers as an intern in nuclear engineering and electrodynamics at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico after a summer studying Mandarin at Shanghai University.

He was accepted into three doctoral programs. Blake is attending the University of Wisconsin on a SciMed Fellowship that will help cover the full cost of his doctorate degree. His goal is to become a clinical medical physicist working in hospitals with cancer patients.

Blake has excelled academically while being deeply involved in track as a decathlete and in cross country at Morehouse throughout his collegiate career. He is a religious young man as well.

There are other recent graduates of Lorain City Schools who have done well academically and are in doctoral studies or have good jobs after receiving degrees.

The public and the Ohio Board of Education should know that Lorain City Schools can and have produced students of the highest caliber.
