Quilt auction: Flat Rock Homes has partnered with Wellington First United Methodist Church for the Biennial Quilt Auction to be held at the Patricia Lindley Center, 627 N. Main St., Wellington, for the Performing Arts, at 11 a.m. Oct. 21, with auction preview and the silent auction starting at 11 a.m. and the live auction, conducted by Bob Hale of Benefit Auction Services, LLC, commencing at noon. This event is one of the biggest fundraisers that Flat Rock Homes hosts. The live auction will kick off at noon conducted by Bob Hale of Benefit Auction Services, LLC. Wellington First United Methodist Church will be selling snacks and lunch items throughout the event. Protestant Reformation. There is a planned special joint service with fellow Catholic brothers and sisters in Christ to celebrate the ongoing ecumenical partnership. Churches from Lorain and Elyria will be participating. Synod Bishop, Bishop Abraham Allende will be in attendance. Rev. Rosalina Rivera from First Lutheran will preach. The service is scheduled for 3 p.m., Nov. 5, at Church of St. Peter’s in Lorain. A reception will follow the service.
Trunk Or Treat: The Missions Committee of Fields United Methodist Church is sponsoring a ‘Trunk Or Treat” safe night from 6 to 8 p.m., Oct. 28, in the church parking lot. The Trunk Or Treat event is free and open to the public for Treaters or Trunkers to participate, but food or cash donations to Community Care are encouraged. Trunkers will be handing out candy and are invited to be in costume and decorate their vehicles with any appropriate themes. Games and refreshments will be provided. Trunk-or-treating is much like classic trickor-treating where kids still dress up in costume and ask for candy. However, with trunk-or-treating, issues with walking from house to house or encountering a stranger are diminished because the event is held in a parking lot with parents and guardians present. Fields UM Church is located 2.5 miles west of Interstate 480 / Route 10, and 3 miles east of Route 83 on Lorain Road. Opioid crisis: The public is invited to hear Dr. Stephen Evans, Lorain County coroner, discuss the current opioid crisis at 7 p.m. Nov. 8, at the United Church of Christ, Congregational, 990
State St. (Route 60), Vermilion. Topics will include how heroin and opioid use became the pandemic it is now, statistics on drug use in our county and the country, the use of Narcan and his involvement in Project DAWN. Hungarian flag raising:
The Hungarian Reformed Church, 1691 E. 31st St. in Lorain, will commemorate the anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution with a flag raising ceremony at 2:45 p.m. Oct. 22, in Oakwood Park, 2047 E. 36th St. in Lorain. A program will follow at 3 p.m. in the church’s sanctuary. All are invited to attend. Stuffed cabbage roll sale: The Hungarian Reformed Church, 1691 E. 31st St., in Lorain, is having its stuffed cabbage roll sale from noon to 3 p.m., Nov. 11. Orders may be placed with the church office until Nov. 4. The cost of the rolls is $15 per dozen uncooked. For more information, call 440277-8177.
Live Nativity: Residents of Wellington will take part in the third presentation of “The Wondrous Gift,” a live Nativity. Several church will be involved with their pastors being shepherds. Servants to the Magi will be played by Boy Scouts, choir will include singers from all over Lorain County area as well as actors. The event will begin at 5 p.m. when Mary and Joseph arrive in the village with their donkey. The pair will make their way through Wellington looking for a place to stay for the night. The couple will make their way to McCormick Park by 6 p.m. after the hunt for lodgings yields nothing. The pair will celebrate the birth of the child with the community at the park. Bake, craft sale: The Ladies Auxiliary of St. Clement Macedonian Orthodox Church, 38665 French Creek Road, Avon, will be holding a bake sale of homemade baked goods, including nut and poppy seed rolls from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Nov. 4. All items are handmade. There will also be craft items for sale. The funds raised by the sale will aid the church in making very needed repairs. Gospel concert: God’s Believers in Christ Church, 520 W. 22nd St., Lorain, will host a gospel concert at 5 p.m., Oct. 29. The singers include Pastor Green and the Visionaires from Rochester, N.Y.; Gospel Travelers from Cleveland; Chosen Vessels from Cleveland; and from Lorain, Sunlight Gospel Singers, One Body Male Chorus, Friendship Male Chorus and New Morning Star Choir. Also, performing are soloists Brenda Folmar, Sunny Morris and Larry Robinson. Anita Taylor and New Morning Star Church as sponsors of the concert.
Fall Fest: New Beginnings Church, 591 Washington St., Amherst, will host a Fall Fest from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 21 at the church. The free event will offer face-painting, crafts, food, bounce house and more. The public is welcome. Nut, poppyseed rolls for sale: Saint Vincent de Paul Altar and Rosary Society is now taking nut and poppyseed roll orders until Nov. 30. Free concert: Powerhouse 5 will perform at 4 p.m., Oct. 22 at Admission is free and open to the public. Powerhouse 5 is an ensemble of six musicians.
