The Lorain Arts Council on Oct. 28 held an opening for the reception of the Focused art show.

It was like a family reunion at the Lorain Arts Council on Oct. 28, for the opening reception of the Focused art show.

The show is the brainchild of Amy Lee, and stems from a show held at the facility, 737 Broadway Ave., in 2011 that showcased the work of a black and white photography class at Lorain County Community College.

She said the 2011 show was an extension of what wasn’t taught in the class.

“In 2011, there was a group of us that were graduating from Lorain County Community College, and in the end you don’t really learn how to put on a gallery show,” she said. “You don’t know how to frame your work, you don’t know how to price your work, you don’t how to learn any of that; so, as president of the photography club at LCCC had come and approached Antonio (Barrios).”

Barrios is executive director of the council. He said he was happy to help the group of students.

“I loved that, because I have a good relationship with the art department at Lorain County Community College,” he said. “So, we did the show and it was a fabulous success and then after that life got in the way.”

Lee said the members of the group mostly didn’t lose touch with one another because of the prevalence of social media and when she ran into Barrios recently they decided to get the band back together, so to speak.

“We were Coming into Focus six years ago, so now we’re Focused,” she said explaining the name of the exhibit.

This time around, the exhibit features the work of 14 local artists in all manner of media including paintings, sculpture and photography. Of those 14, five artists were part of the 2011 group.

“Not all of us stayed in black and white photography,” Lee said.

The works featured in the 2011 show are on display in the back room of the facility during the show.

Gallery hours for the show run 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays through Saturdays.
