Incumbents retain seats on Elyria City Council

Elyria voters made their choices Nov. 7 on 11 City Council candidates and most of the incumbents will return to office.

In unofficial results of the Elyria council-at large contest, incumbents Jack Baird, Thomas G. Callahan, Michael J. Lotko III and Victor F. Stewart III will retain their seats.

Baird tallied 3,892 votes, Callahan with 3,699, Lotko with 3,773 and Stewart with 3,613 votes.

The fifth candidate Alan Pugh received 2,836 votes.

Callahan said he wants to maximize grant dollars and other funding opportunit­ies in order to address improvemen­ts to Elyria’s parks, city services and public safety.

A council-at-large member

since 2005, Callahan aims to find ways to collaborat­e to find practical solutions to the challenges faced by Elyria.

“It’s very exciting to be continuing my seventhter­m with a Council who is very experience­d and work well together,” he said.

“We have many serious issues to work with in the next two years. So, City Council will remain to do what we can for the city of Elyria.”

The ward races results include:

Larry W. Tanner was unopposed and won the first ward with 661 votes; Brenda Kay Davis, also was unopposed, won the second ward with 467 votes; Mark Jessie defeated Gerald R. Roig in the third ward, 974-562; Mark Craig defeated Ray Noble in the fourth ward, 1,090 to 457.

Also, Marcus D. Madison, won the fifth ward with 440 votes, but unofficial final results did not include a figure from writein challenger LeighAnn Davies-Arroyo; Donna Mitchell won the sixth ward with 481 votes; and John W. Cerra defeated Scott L. McDonald in the seventh ward, 675-436.
