Police: Man pulls gun on driver in hit and run

-

A 56-year-old Elyria man pulled a gun on an Elyria man who police say caused a vehicle crash and then attempted to leave the scene, according to an Elyria police report.

Hasan Karci, 48, was responsible for the vehicle crash and attempted to leave the scene at 9:45 a.m., Nov. 5, the report said.

Karci failed to stop at the intersection of Cleveland Street and North Abbe Road and the back of his Ford Taurus hit the front of a Chrysler, the report said.

Karci then drove away and the victim followed him to a cul-de-sac at BonAir Avenue and Sycamore Street, the report said.

After Karci stopped his car, the man pulled behind him as he waited for the police, according to the report.

Karci then backed his car into the man’s parked car and attempted to leave the scene again, the report said. This caused the victim to get out of his car and point his gun at Karci in an attempt to keep Karci at the scene, the report said.

The victim was viewed as using the gun to defend himself and was not charged, the report said.

Police said there were two crashes in total, one at Cleveland and Abbe and the other at Bon-Air and Sycamore, according to the report.

Police determined Karci was not trying to harm the man during the BonAir and Sycamore crash, but was trying to get away, the report said. Karci was charged with leaving the scene in both incidents, according to the report.
