The Matt Wilhelm Award goes to the football player of the year for the Morning Journal area. In alphabetic­al order: • Darren Anders, North Olmsted, Jr.: Anders ended the season with 1,136 yards and 16 touchdowns on 165 carries and 271 yards and three touchdowns on 15 receptions on offense to go with four tackles for a loss, 10.5 sacks, an intercepti­on and two recovered fumbles on defense.

• Nick Denney, Firelands, Sr.: Denney ended the season with 735 yards and eight touchdowns on 77 carries, adding 707 yards and 11 touchdowns on 36 catches. He also had a kick return for a touchdown, an intercepti­on, two blocked field goals, a forced fumble and 39 tackles. • Drew Engle, Clearview, Jr.: Rushed five times for nine yards in a 44-0 loss to Clear Fork. For the season, Engle has 1,439 yards, 16 touchdowns and three two-point conversion­s on 176 carries, adding a touchdown and 32 yards on three receptions. • Seamus Higley, Midview, Sr.: Was 15-for-20 for 124 yards and a touchdown, adding seven carries for 26 yards, in a 26-23 loss to Olmsted Falls. For the season, Higley is 154for-253 for 1,873 yards, 26 touchdowns and five intercepti­ons, adding 244 yards and two touchdowns on 70 carries. • Seth Hurd, Vermilion, Jr.: Hurd ended the season 132-for-226 for 1,570 yards, 21 touchdowns and nine intercepti­ons, adding 420 yards and five touchdowns on 92 carries and five intercepti­ons (two returned for touchdowns) and 41 tackles on defense. • Ryan Maloy, Avon, Jr.: Was 10-for-15 for 125 yards and an intercepti­on, adding 67 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, in a 28-12 win over St. John’s Jesuit. For the season, Maloy is 157-for-211 for 2,125 yards, 20 touchdowns and five intercepti­ons, adding 587 yards and 10 touchdowns on 82 carries. • Trey Psota, Bay, Sr.: Rushed 21 times for 190 yards and four touchdowns, adding seven tackles on defense, in a 28-18 win over Mansfield Senior. For the season, Psota has 1,240 yards and 23 touchdowns on 143 carries, adding 80 tackles, two intercepti­ons and a forced fumble on defense. • Khennedy Scagliozzo, Amherst, Jr.: Scagliozzo ended the season with 1,744 yards and 21 touchdowns on 268 carries, while also throwing four touchdown passes. • Justin Sturgill, Lorain, Sr.: Was 14-for-21 for 157 yards, three touchdowns and one intercepti­on in a 31-28 loss to Toledo Whitmer. For the season, Sturgill is 104-for-175 for 1,424 yards, 22 touchdowns and three intercepti­ons to go with six passes for twopoint conversion­s, adding 70 carries for 293 yards and three touchdowns. • Shomari Williams, North Ridgeville, Sr.: Williams ended the season with 1,591 yards and 17 touchdowns on 234 carries, adding a pick-six, a forced fumble and three tackles for a loss — including two sacks — on defense.

The Matt Wilhelm Award will be presented during a special edition of Varsity Chalk Talk at The Hooley House, 24940 Sperry Drive, Westlake, on Nov. 14. The show starts at 7 p.m.
