SHOPPING SEASON BEGINS
Lorain County residents line up at stores for holiday bargains
Lorain County bargain hunters hit the aisles on Thanksgiving Day as area department stores opened their doors in the evening on Nov. 23.
Not everyone was kicking back and relaxing on Thanksgiving as shoppers across northeast braced themselves for Thanksgiving Day bargain-hunting opportunities.
Stores across Lorain County including Best Buy, Kohl’s, Target and more opened their doors at 5 p.m. while Wal-Mart was giving an array of chances for shoppers to get an early start on their holiday shopping.
At Best Buy’s Midway Mall location at 6650 Midway Blvd. in Elyria, eager shoppers began lining up outside the store as early as 8:30 a.m. to get the first opportunity to buy this year’s hot items using creative means to pass the time and stay warm.
Standing behind the guard rail leading into the store, Drew Robles was dancing with anticipation to keep warm after arriving at 8:30 a.m. to be first in
line for the chance at fresh electronics, skipping morning and afternoon Thanksgiving festivities to get his
hands on a new television. Robles said he didn’t prepare for the hours-long wait as much as some but was eager to partake in the shopping frenzy.
“Not really. We are just after a TV,” Robles said. “That’s all I know. There
might be some other things but that’s really all I want.”
Coming prepared with folding chairs, hot beverages and lots of layers, Anna Kessler and Jennifer Gantz arrived at 9:30 a.m. and were taking the experience in stride.
“We brought everything but the alcohol,” Gantz said.
Best Buy officials were also contributing to the cause by handing snacks to eager shoppers. After handing out admission tickets at 4:00 p.m. Best Buy is expected to be at full capacity.
