- Staff report

The Educational Service Center of Lorain County is hosting a Substitute School Bus Driver Job Fair from 1 to 5 p.m., Nov. 30, at 1885 Lake Road in Elyria, for area school districts.

A substitute bus driver is an ideal position for someone looking to make a little extra money and also work a flexible schedule, according to a news release. Additional qualifications include applicants must be at least 21 years old, have a clean driving record and pass a background check, while CDL and/or experience is preferred but not required.

Training will be provided by the school districts.

The districts that will be present at the job fair include Amherst, Avon, Clearview, Firelands, Keystone, Midview, Oberlin, North Ridgeville, Sheffield/Sheffield Lake and Wellington.

“The need is real for bus drivers not only in our district but all over Ohio,” said Bill Fishleigh, Avon Schools’ director of operations, in the release. “Most, if not all, of our substitute drivers turn into regular drivers. This fair will give individuals the opportunity to see the benefits of driving a bus for a school and what each school in Lorain county can offer them.”

Fishleigh can be contacted at 440-937-4680 or fishleighb@avoneagles.org.

“Come enjoy the open road as a substitute bus driver for the Wellington Village School District” said Superintendent Ed Weber in the release. “Experience the countryside as you greet students each morning and drop them off at night.”
