The Morning Journal (Lorain, OH)
GIRLS GOLF ALL-STARS
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Paighton Masterson Avon Lake, junior Paighton Masterson quickly found herself running out of room for all of the awards she accumulated during the season. The 2016 Morning Journal Golfer of the Year added to her stellar career in 2017, averaging 1.98 over par for the season. She tied for first at the Division I Northeast sectional tournament at Sweetbriar, advancing to the Northeast District D-I tournament, where she shot a 76 to place 12th, missing out on a state berth by just two strokes. She was the medalist at the Edison Invitational as well as the SWC Championships. She also claimed the OGGF Championship and was named to the SWC first team while taking Player of the Year honors. Her accolades are not quite done yet, though, as Masterson was also named first team All-District. She can now add another moniker to her already lengthy list: two-time Morning Journal Golfer of the Year. Find out more in a video interview on MorningJournal.com.

COACH OF THE YEAR
Krystine Frisch Avon Lake Avon Lake was the only area team to qualify to district. While much of that can be attributed to the players, it takes a strong guiding hand to make sure that the players keep the focus to gain that level of team success. Frisch provided that guidance, which was apparent all season long as the Shoregals had their second straight perfect season while claiming yet another Southwestern Conference title. The Avon Lake program is in good hands as long as Frisch is at the helm.
