PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Roni Shin Rocky River, senior At the start of the year, Roni Shin may not have been the best player on Rocky River, let alone The Morning Journal area. However, all he did throughout the year was get better. The result? A trip to Columbus. After shooting a 75 at sectionals, he shot a 73 at district to qualify as an individual. At Ohio State’s Scarlet Course, Shin shot a pair of 81s to finish in a tie for 31st in the state at 162. More than the qualification, though, it was Shin’s consistency throughout the season that drew the eye of not only those he competed against, but the coaches who watched him from the sidelines as well. COACH OF THE YEAR

David Hendrickson Rocky River The best sign of a coach’s success is the improvement of the players. There is no doubting that the Pirates showed steady improvement all season long. Yes, the players are those putting in the work, but it is the coach behind the scenes that helps fix a swing or read a putt that makes the difference. With a second-place finish at the Northeast sectional at Sweetbriar and a seventh-place finish at the Northeast district at Pine Hills, there is no doubt that Hendrickson had a strong guiding hand that helped the Pirates stay the course and find success.
