Police make arrests on two drug-related crimes
Lorain Police Department narcotics detectives and officers from the Adult Parole Authority arrested a parolee Dec. 13 they alleged possessed drugs during a search, according to a news release.
Lorain detectives assisted Parole Authority officers in arresting Bobbie Smith, 36, in the 2500 block of Homewood Drive, the release said.
Smith was on parole for trafficking in drugs when he was found in possession of 88 grams of cocaine, 20 grams of suspected opioid analogues and $980 in cash, according to the release.
The cocaine had a street value of $5,000 and the suspected opioid analogue approximately $2,000, the release said.
Smith is facing charges
of trafficking in drugs, possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Meanwhile, on Dec. 21, officers of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Demarea Worthy, 19, of the 1300 block of West Fifth Street in Lorain, on charges of trafficking in drugs on school grounds, according to the release.
Lorain narcotics detectives investigated Worthy after a Lorain High School student became ill after eating brownies laced with marijuana, the release said.
Officers obtained a secret indictment and arrest warrant for Worthy in association with that investigation, according to the release.
Worthy’s residence has been the subject of several citizens’ complaints of suspected drug trafficking, the release said.
While on the scene arresting Worthy, task force officers observed a marijuana growing operation in plain view, according to the release.
Additionally, they recovered suspected fentanyl and crack cocaine within the residence.
Randy Palos, 27, who also resides in the 1300 block of West Fifth Street, was arrested and charged with trafficking in drugs, illegal manufacture of drugs and permitting drug abuse in association with the drugs located in his residence, the release said.
