Shoppers seek sales at shops after Christmas

After Christmas and during the Holidays, many stores drop down prices for shoppers to grab as much as they can to prepare for future holidays coming up, or to just get deals on other merchandise.

Shoppers in Amherst’s Target, 8000 Oak Point Road, swarmed the aisles, Dec. 26, and filled their carts with marked-down Christmas items and more while others made returns and traded in gifts for others.

Emily Volz, 22, from Oberlin came to Amherst’s Target to make an exchange for a gift her mother got her for Christmas. She said her mother got her a digital

camera with a printer, but was wanting a Polaroid camera. Although she was very appreciative of what her mother got her for Christmas, she said her mother couldn’t find the camera she wanted due to it being out of stock. Volz said after looking online, the Amherst Target had it in stock and she was able to make a return of the digital camera and make an exchange for the Polaroid the next day.

Volz said she has done returns before, but never an exchange. She said it was a very easy process for her to go online and find the closest store to her instead of searching and calling on her own.

“The fact that the store had what I wanted right after is nice,” she said. “It does feel weird that it’s that easy to get because when I was younger it used to seem like you got what you got and that was it.”

Michele Henes and her daughter Jill from Amherst were also shopping for Christmas deals and other items for next year’s holiday and said that this is a recurring get-together for the two every year.

Normally, the girls said they like to go earlier in the day around 7 a.m. to avoid crowds, but weren’t able to this year.

The two said they like to look for Christmas bags and other holiday deals for next year’s Christmas. Jill said she usually gets things people don’t really need for Christmas now, but will need for next year. Michele said she likes to shop early for her grandchildren, dog and other family members early on when she isn’t looking for gift bags or wrapping paper. Jill said she got an early start on buying a few Elf on the Shelf dolls for her classroom for next Christmas. The two found sales on many items, in amazement that almost everything was 50 percent off. Some items they had filled in their cart were dog beds, pajamas for little ones in their family and socks that were 50 cents a pair.

Michele said Target wasn’t the only stop for after Christmas sales and that they had other stores in plan.

“It’s fun for us,” said Jill. “It’s like Black Friday to us with great deals and people everywhere.”
