Avon City Council started off the new year by swearing in returning and new members of council at its Jan. 2 meeting.

Welcoming back Ward 1 Councilman Robert Butkowski, Ward 2 Councilman Dennis McBride, Ward 4 Councilman Scott Radcliffe and Mayor Bryan Jensen for four-year-terms was a proud moment to another dedication of four years together, according to Jensen and the council members.

Sworn in for his first term in office as a council member was is Ward 3 Councilman Anthony Moore. Previous Ward 3 Councilwoman Mary Berges did not seek reelection.

Moore said he was with Avon’s Charter Review Committee from January to May of last year. He said he has lived in Avon for 10 years.

Moore said the city’s growth has been phenomenal and as a councilman he just wants to be part of keeping the city going and share his ideas.

Moore said he would like to see the city connect and help maintain a nice balance between commercial and residential properties. In his ward, he said there is a flooding issue and he wants to be proactive to find ways to reduce that in the ward and city overall.

He said there’s been a lot to take in becoming a member of council.

“It can be overwhelming, but it’s very exciting too,” he said. “I’ve always gravitated to something like this with the leadership role since college. It’s just an exciting thing to be a part of the city.”

Moore said members of council and Berges have been helping him transition into his new position. He said Berges did a phenomenal job in office and has been very helpful while meeting with him to share ideas and make things easier for him.

“I love it here; it’s a great city,” Moore said. “I like (council), I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.”

Jensen said that Moore is a great addition to council and is ready for him to work with other members.

“There’s a lot of continuity here,” Jensen said. “I really think this council believes like I do in terms of controlled growth and things that we work so hard on to make sure that we’ve kept (projects stable). I think we all have the same vision, and even though there are still questions that do go back and forth, we have a council that believes the same way and that makes it easier to work together.”
