Lorain man facing charges in child’s death

- Staff report

A 30-year-old Lorain man was charged Jan. 12 with aggravated murder and felony child endangerment in the death of a 2-yearold boy in November 2017.

Andre Moore, 30, of Concord Avenue, already was incarcerated in the Lorain County Jail on a prior parole violation when the new charges were added following an investigation involving the Cuyahoga County coroner, Metro Health physicians, the Lorain County prosecutor and Child Protective Services, according to a news release from the Lorain Police Department.

Warrants were issued by Lorain Municipal Court for Moore’s arrest, the release said.

The child was transported by medical helicopter Nov. 17 to Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland with burns to 45 percent of his body, the release said. The boy succumbed to his injuries Nov. 22.

Moore claimed the youngster suffered the burns while taking a bath, the release said.

The case was assigned to Lorain police Detective Tabitha Angello.

During the course of the investigation, detectives determined the boy’s injuries were not

consistent with the suspect’s version because of bruising being found on the child’s face and hip along with a broken rib that was in the process of healing, the release

stated.

The child’s mother, Samone Boykins, 30, also of Concord Avenue, was charged with felony child endangerment.

Boykins is being held at the Lorain County Jail.

Both Moore and Boykins will be arraigned in Lorain Municipal Court on Jan. 16.
