Authorities have arrested two men in connection to the Jan. 4 shooting of a 54-year-old Avon woman, according to a news release from the North Ridgeville Police Department.

Police identified the shooter as Christian Donovan Martinez, 20, of Lorain.

Martinez is facing charges of attempted murder, a first-degree felony; and felonious assault, a second-degree felony, according to the release.

Currently, Martinez is being held at the Lorain County Jail.

North Ridgeville police arrested Martinez on Jan. 5 for an unrelated outstanding domestic violence warrant through the Lorain Police Department. He has been in police custody since his arrest.

Detectives identified the driver as Jonathon Damire Barnette, 21, also of Lorain.

Police arrested Barnette on Jan. 11 in Lorain and transported him to the North Ridgeville Police Department.

Barnette is facing charges of complicity to commit attempted murder, a first-degree felony; and complicity to felonious assault, a second-degree felony.

Both men were working as temporary employees for Multi-Link Inc. in Elyria, which is connected to Taylor Industrial Parkway, according to the release.

At 12:18 p.m., North Ridgeville police received a 911 call advising of a female sitting in a car at the intersection of Bender Road and Taylor Industrial Parkway yelling for medical help, according to a release shortly after the incident.

While police were en route, it was learned the female victim stated that she had been shot and that she was going in and out of consciousness after her car rolled backward into a snow drift.

The victim was working as a temporary employee at Invacare Corp.

During a break, the victim was parked at the end of Bender Road at Taylor Industrial Parkway, which is an area frequently used by local employees during their breaks.

The victim was transported to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center by the North Ridgeville Fire Department and subsequently transported by medical helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Police did not release the condition of the victim.

Barnette was driving a 2001 maroon Jeep Cherokee at the time of the shooting, which they borrowed from another coworker, the release said. The vehicle has been impounded.

At this time, police said they are not aware of any direct link between the victim and the two defendants.

“We would like to publicly acknowledge and thank both the Elyria and Lorain Police Departments for their assistance in the apprehension of these two subjects in a timely manner,” the release said.

Court officials have not set hearing dates for the pair.
