Trump is making our country a better place

Jonah Goldberg’s column in the Jan. 3 Morning Journal on institutional failure is correct in allowing that our education system leaves our young mostly uneducated in civics.

But then he goes off the rails when he describes President Donald Trump: “...rhetorical contempt for free speech ... ignorance of basic constitutional facts ... addiction to drama and ratings ... personalization of every political question” and more.

It might be more relevant to mention what has been accomplished since Trump’s inauguration.

Here are a few: passed the most sweeping tax reform in 30 years, including the elimination of the Obamacare individual mandate; declared war on the regulatory state, eliminating 22 regulations for every new regulation and saving $8.1 billion; revved up the U.S. economy — GDP growth above 3 percent for three quarters in a row, and 1.7 million new jobs and more than 70 record-high closes in the stock market.

In addition, Trump has appointed well-respected, conservative judges, including Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch and 12 confirmed circuit court judges, a new record; restored U.S. leadership on the world stage; directed policy to restore American energy dominance — approving the Keystone XL Pipeline, ending the war on coal and exiting the disastrous Paris Climate Agreement; recognized Jerusalem the capital of Israel and initiated plans to relocate the U.S. Embassy there; declared a nationwide public health emergency to address the opioid crisis; focused on defeating the transnational MS-13 gang that threaten our nation’s communities — more than 4,000 gang members already arrested and charged, through the efforts of the Department of Justice and authorities in Central America.

But, of course, if you are a “never Trumper” you may not think these are worthwhile.

The continuing vicious attacks on Trump by the establishment is valid evidence that Trump is beginning to take away their power and their ability to get richer at our expense. Unfortunately, they are blinded by their visceral hate to how things are truly getting better in this great country of ours.
