- Staff report

Lorain drive-by shooting injures 2 . One man charged for chase after incident.

An 11-year-old boy and a 19-year-old woman were injured early Jan. 20 in a driveby shooting on Larkmoor Street in Lorain.

According to a Lorain police report:

Police charged Anthony L. Charlton, 26, of Lorain, with having a weapon while under disability, fleeing from police, driving under suspension, expired plates and possession of drugs for his role as alleged driver in a car chase after the shooting.

The incident started about 3:14 a.m. Jan. 20 outside a house in the 2000 block of Larkmoor Street. A vehicle drove down the street and fired at a house.

A 19-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and an 11-yearold boy suffered a gunshot wound to the right thigh in the incident.

They were treated at the scene, then driven to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center for care. Exact condition information was not available on Jan. 21.

As police were going to the house, an officer on the Lofton Henderson Memorial Bridge spotted a Chevrolet Sonic speeding away from the east side. The officer recognized the car from a previous shooting investigation and due to the nature of the call and the car’s reckless driving, he turned his cruiser around to pursue it.

That led to a chase around West 21st Street, East Avenue, East 26th Street, Denver Avenue, East 32nd Street and Broadway.

The car turned through the parking lot of the GluvnaShimo-Hromada Funeral Home, then turned south in an alley behind the building, but got stuck in a snow pile. Two men fled the car but an officer used a police cruiser to pin the Chevrolet in place with the driver inside.

Officers ordered out the driver, later identified as Charlton, and took him into custody. Police found a handgun outside the car where Charlton got out, and officers searching for the suspects who ran found a second gun in the backyard of a house on West 32nd Street.

In the car, officers also found a magazine for the gun, at least three pills, a cellular telephone and wallets of two other men.

Officers found about 18 bullet holes in the home and 17 bullet casings on the street outside. At the time, the woman was sleeping in the front room of the house and the boy was asleep in his bedroom.

There were several other small children at the house during the incident, but no other injuries, the report said.

The case remains under investigation, according to Lorain police.
