Bishop featured: The Wesley United Methodist Church invites everyone to hear Bishop Tracy Malone delivers the sermon during morning worship service at 11 a.m., Feb. 18. Malone became the first African-American female bishop in the United Methodist denominati­on when she was assigned to the East Ohio Conference on September 2016. Malone earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and Sociology with a minor in Computer Science from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. She received a Master’s in Divinity from Garrett-Evangelica­l Theologica­l Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, and earned a Doctorate of Ministry from United Theologica­l Seminary in Dayton. Malone has received numerous awards of distinctio­n and is currently serving on many United Methodist affiliated boards and organizati­ons. Pierogies for sale: St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 3038 Charleston Ave., Lorain, will sell potato/cheese pierogies for $8 per dozen Feb. 16. Place your order by calling the morning of Feb. 15 at 440-277-9080 with pick up from 9-11:30 am. Feb. 16. Spoonful of Soul: Spoonful of Soul, a Black History Month tribute complete with music, dance and spoken word presentati­ons, is set for noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 24 at the United Missionary Baptist Church, 326 Fuller Road, Elyria. Presented by Ambassador Brothers of Lorain County and hosted by Meeko Israel of Oberlin, the second annual event will feature keynote speaker Dr. Glenn Faircloth, superinten­dent of the Lorain County Joint Vocational Schools. Faircloth is the school’s first African-American superinten­dent, coming to Lorain County in 2012 from Dayton, where he began his career as a science teacher and finished as senior high school principal/director of career technical programs. The day will include the presentati­on of Leadership Award to Jerome Davis, superinten­dent of Clearview Local Schools, and Elyria NAACP President Ardelia “Dee” Tolbert. Community Service Awards will go to Oberlin’s Margaret Christian and Lorain’s Martha Pye. Recipients of Unsung Hero Community Service Award and Hometown Hero Award will be announced at the event as a surprise to those in the attendance. The day’s special guest performanc­e will be Oberlin College’s own Soundever. The event is free and attendance is by invitation/ reservatio­n only as space is limited. Donations will be accepted with proceeds going to benefit the many programs of the Ambassador Brothers including the annual Father/Daughter Dance, 3-on-3 Youth Basketball Tournament and Children’s Holiday Dinner. To RSVP, call 440-4536402. Lenten pierogi sale: The Lenten pierogi sale at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, located at 25801 Royalton Road, Columbia Station, has started. Orders should be called in by Feb. 19, for pick up on Feb. 22; order by March 5, for pick up on March 8; and the final order by March 19, for pick up on March 22. Pick up times are 2 to 6:30 p.m. The pierogies are sold by the dozen only and have the following fillings: potato, potato/cheese, sauerkraut, ricotta cheese, prune, cabbage, and apple. The strudel flavors are apple, blueberry, cheese and cherry. Pierogies are $9 per dozen and strudel strips are $5 each. Forms can be found in the entrance way of the church, or you may fax your order to the office at 440-236-5804. Orders can also be called in from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. to 440236-9095. Cabbage Roll Dinner: The Lorain Internatio­nal Associatio­n will be hosting a Cabbage Roll Dinner at St. Mary Church, 309 W. 7th St., Lorain, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Feb. 24. Tickets are $10. Drinks and dessert are included in the cost of each dinner. All proceeds will benefit the Lorain Internatio­nal Festival. Tickets will be available at the door. Lenten fish fry dinners: St. Joseph Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst, will host the annual Lenten fish dinners again this season. The dinners will be served every Friday in Lent beginning Feb. 16. Dinners will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. A lake perch, shrimp or combo dinner will cost $13.50 or two for $26. Monthly dinner: St. Mary Church, 309 W. 7th St. Lorain will host the monthly dinner at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 10. Stuffed cabbage sale: A stuffed cabbage sale will be from noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Hungarian Reformed Church, 1691 E. 31st St., Lorain. Orders can be placed by calling the church office from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday to Friday at 440–277-8177. Cost is $15 per dozen, uncooked. Orders will be taken until Feb. 9.
