James F. Aten III, 87, beloved husband of the late Lillian (nee Malek) Aten, of Lorain passed away peacefully on day, February 4, 2018, in Elyria.

Born in Cleveland, graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1949, he earned a BS in education from Bowling Green State University in 1956 after serving two years in the US Army, and a ter’s in education in 1960 from Western Reserve University.

He was an integral part of the demic family of Lorain High School from 1956 through 1984 where he was a teacher then Assistant Principal. Passionate about education, Mr. Aten helped many young adults stay the course and go on to college.

A lifetime member of First Evangelica­l theran Church in Lorain, Mr. Aten was an tive volunteer. He loved visiting Lakeview Park to reminisce about his life with Lillian and talk to the many former students and teachers who knew him.

Mr. Aten is survived by son James P. (Lee Anne) Aten, of Dublin, OH, daughters Renee M Aten (Charles Patti) of Cleveland, Kimberly L. (David) Dolan of Elyria, dren Aaron and Andrew (Krista) Aten, Emily (Sam) Brown, Amanda Aten, great granddaugh­ter, Hattie Anne Brown, and brother, Michael (Margaret) Aten.

A Memorial Service will be held at First Lutheran cal Lutheran Church, 1015 W. 5th Street, Lorain on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Rosalina Rivera, pastor, officiatin­g. Burial was private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made in Jim’s memory to the First Evangelica­l Lutheran Church, 1015 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
